The WESTOP NorCal Chapter is hosting an in-person Professional Development Seminar (PDS) for educational change agents and opportunity programs who advocate & provide equitable services to under-served/underrepresented communities and families.

This three-day event will afford participants the opportunity to expand their network, make connections, and develop new strategies to grow personally, professionally, and collectively.

The theme for this year’s conference is Advocacy Without Borders: Embracing Differences and Building Bridges.  

We welcome you to join forces with us as we cultivate new strategies to serve students and communities, establish meaningful connections, and plan for educational transformation together.

With excitement running around the clock, there’s truly never a dull moment.”


The hotel is offering a special rate of $99 a night per room for Wednesday, December 6th, and Thursday, December 7th. The hotel is also offering conference attendees a special rate for the weekend if they wish to stay longer and enjoy the beauty of South Lake Tahoe. Rooms will be available at a rate of $169 a night per room for Friday, December 8th, and Saturday, December 9th. Limited space is available for all nights, so please book early.

The above rates are per guestroom, per night, single or double occupancy. Rates are subject to applicable resort fees and governmental room taxes. Each additional person will be charged at a rate of $20.00 per person per night with a maximum of four (4) persons per guestroom.


Check-in time is 4:00 PM, and check-out time is 11:00 AM. Any departures after 11:00 AM are subject to the full-day charge. Each guestroom must have at least one registered guest twenty-one (21) years of age or older.

It is Property’s standard policy to require a credit card from individual attendees upon check-in for incidental charges.


The property allows individual attendee cancellations without penalty up to seventy-two (72) hours prior to the attendee’s scheduled arrival date. Property will charge the individual attendee one (1) night’s guestroom rate plus tax for cancellations within seventy-two (72) hours of the scheduled arrival date or failure of the individual attendee to check in on the scheduled arrival date (each a “no-show”). Any remaining nights of a no-show reservation will be canceled without additional penalty.

The WESTOP NorCal PDS Committee is requesting proposals for workshops December 6-8, 2023. We are seeking workshop leaders from a broad range of programs to present sessions that are engaging, interactive, and create an opportunity to expand TRIO professionals’ knowledge with new ways to advocate for student access and educational equity all the while highlighting the theme Advocacy Without Borders: Embracing Differences & Building Bridges!

Submissions will be reviewed weekly. Please submit your proposal by November 3rd.

Why offer a workshop?

WESTOP NorCal PDS holds space for TRIO professionals to recharge and reflect, sharing your knowledge helps strengthen our programs and practices. Additionally:

  • Presenting a workshop allows you connect more intimately with WESTOP NorCal members;
  • Teaching others is an enlightening way to reflect on your professional growth;
  • Leading workshops is a great skill-building experience for Rising Leaders;
  • Facilitating workshops is a great opportunity to strengthen the brand of our TRIO Programs.

What might you offer?

We encourage workshop proposals that explore different facets, while maintaining confidence and trust of others through honesty, integrity, and authenticity. Past PDS participants have enjoyed experiences that were participatory and focused on group engagement.

How might you structure the workshop?

PDS is open to offering a style of workshop that best suits the needs of the topic proposed. We can support single or multiple sessions of varying time blocks. In the proposal form, we ask you to suggest what might work best for your topic.
